Originally I wasn't intending to do the ubiquitous "about me" section, but then I thought how can umteen odd million sites be wrong?:) Therefore, welcome to my latest website to date. In case you haven't realised yet, my name is Geoff A. Virgo and this brief section will hopefully give you some insight into who I am. Although born in Ontario, I spent my teens and early 20's living in St. John's, NF. My family is originally from Vancouver and 8 years ago I moved the West Coast to be closer to the relatives that I didn't get to see as much as I would have liked while growing up. Now I am a 34 year old IT professional currently employed as a Systems Administrator with the Provinical Health Services Authority. In August of 2000 I completed a post-graduate diploma in Information Technology Applications at the Professional Institute of Applied Technology. I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland with minors in both Biochemistry and History.
As you will have noticed, I have made freely available almost of of the source code used on this page. The purpose for placing my programs on this site, in this manner, are two-fold. In one light, I feel they will help demonstrate my abilities as a programmer with the end goal of successfully obtaining employment related to backend, database orientated programing. On the other hand, I hope that by placing my code here in an open form I may be able to help encourage others to explore and respect the possiblities which arise from the free exchange of information, techniques, and ideas. It is also my hope that people may learn as much either from the code I have written, or from the mistakes which that code may contain, as I have from other people's code.
